Esgenoôpetitj School provides a positive, safe, and caring learning environment. Our mission is to promote independent, creative, life-long learners, with an emphasis rooted in pride, wisdom, love, humility, honesty, truth, bravery, and respect.
Preserving Mi’kmaq Culture
Esgenoôpetitj School is committed to re-establishing the culture and language with our students and the community. We believe that the language, culture and beliefs of the Mi`kmaq people provide a strong base for learning and creates a positive atmosphere for learning.
The student’s sense of belonging and understanding is an extremely important piece of our educational plan. Our cultural program explores the history of the Mi’kmaq people and our community. The pride of knowing the history and the importance of the traditions, ceremonies and language and the opportunity to learn and explore more will aid in school retention.
The Seven Mik’maq Teachings of Love, Respect, Humility, Courage, Truth, Honesty, and Wisdom are central to the success of each one of the students. Every month, one of the teachings is focused on throughout the school and is intertwined with the curriculum through, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Art.
Esgenoôpetitj School follows the New Brunswick curriculum for all grade levels and our students write district and provincial assessments. The key difference being that Esgenoôpetitj School will reflect the Mi’kmaq language and culture of the community in our course planning.
